An Ilioinguinal or Genitofemoral Nerve Block is designed to block chronic pain in the groin, penile, testicular or pelvic area.
These two nerves actually overlap, which can make it difficult to tell where the pain originates. This type of block reduces pain signals sent from these nerves, which offers therapeutic relief and pain management.

Who may Benefit from this Treatment:
Someone experiencing chronic pain in the groin or pelvic area may benefit from this treatment. It may be someone who sits for long periods, does a lot of bike riding or has an injury which pressed on those nerves.
The Genitofemoral nerve is specifically related to the abdomen and pelvic area. Someone who has had a C-section, appendectomy,
and experiences chronic pain as a result may benefit. You may notice a numbing or burning pain in the abdomen which radiates out toward the groin and genital area. What to Expect:
Before the nerve block is performed, we will make you as comfortable as possible and answer any remaining questions. During this type of nerve block, the area around the groin and abdomen will be cleaned. Then, using a needle and the Fluoroscopy machine for guidance, Dr Henriquez would administer a local anesthetic as well as a steroid right near the nerve. This will inhibit the pain signals from reaching the brain.
This is a very quick treatment, and you will notice pain relief almost immediately. We will ensure your treatment was successful before you leave and that there were no side effects. The most likely side effect is some tenderness at the injection site.
The pain relief from this treatment can last up to a month, several months or even a year or two. The treatment can also be repeated as necessary.
