When you first start to have pain — Such as throwing your back out — Most people put heat on the area because it feels good. However, you need to be icing these areas instead. Ice is an anti-inflammatory, so icing the area two or three times each day for 15-20 minutes will help make the overall pain lessen.
There are several ways to reduce pain with over-the-counter options:
Pain Patches
Creams – Especially the Australian Dream Cream
TENS Unit Machine
You can purchase this machine from most large department stores or online. It is a voltage aided technology. You place it along the muscle tissue of the neck or back (not the bone) and it contracts the muscle tissue so the tissue will relax. It also helps you forget about the pain because you are feeling something else.
Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy is not intended for pain relief. You may experience relief from pain, however, its actual purpose is to strengthen your core. That way, in the future, your problem is not getting worse but rather staying the same. Making the core stronger will keep you where you are in terms of body maintenance.
